Elgin, IL-- The All-Stars from the East win 8-3 over the All-Stars from the West in no-hit fashion. The East pitchers did not allow a single hit while walking six and striking out seven in 9-innings. The East faced the minimum through the first 5 innings of play until an error by the East plated two runs in the 6th for the West. The third run for the West was scored in the 8th after AJ Compton (DTA, Elmhurst College) scored on an RBI groundout by Steve Chamberlain (Rockford hard Knox, UW-Whitewater).
The hitters on the East team took advantage of a few errors and wild pitches to score in the first five innings. Colin Bethran (Park RIdge Padres, Concordia University Chicago) started off his great night by reaching on an error. After an Alec Strachota (Wheaton White Sox, North Park University) single and an error on a fielder's choice, Bethran came around to score. Then, the East offense exploded for 3 runs in the 4th inning from key hits by John Thomas (Wheaton White Sox, University of Indianapolis, Connor Hogan (Will County Warriors, Webster University), and Gabe Dwyer (Des Plaines Patriots, University of Illinois-Chicago). Bethran struck again in the fifth by drawing a leadoff walk. He was advanced to second on a hit by Mike Hallstrom (Des Plaines Patriots, McHenry County College). During the next at-bat he stole thrid and scored on an errant throw by the catcher.
The East offense capped off their night by scoring three more runs in the 9th inning. Tyler Ward (Will County Warriors, Augustana University) got it started with a 1-out double. Steve Zubrzycki (Des Plaines Patriots, Concordia University Chicago) followed Ward's two bagger with a single of his own. Bethran struck again in the next at-bat by scoring Ward and Zubrzycki with a triple. He would later score on a 2-out single by Hallstrom.
Bethran ended his night by reaching base 4 out 5 times, scoring three runs, stealing a base, and driving in two runs with a triple. Other notable offensive performaces included Connor Hogan going 1-2 with two walks and a run scored, and Mike Hallstrom going 2-4 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
Johnny Lord (Will County Warriors, Webster University), Brian Polowy (Wheaton White Sox, North Central College), Ryder Borre (Park Ridge Padres, Knox College), and Ryan Gick (Northern Knights, Hamline University) all threw perfect frames for the East. Tyler Hamer (Crystal Lake Cardinals, University of Nebraska-Omaha), Brent Kiesel (ZAT Aces, Trinity Christian College), and Ryan Olson (Crystal Lake Cardinals, Northern Illinois University) were able to quell the East offense with perftect frames of their own.
