Huber named MVP of 2011 All-Star Game

July 19, 2011-Park Ridge Indian’s first baseman, Kyle Huber, was named MVP in the All-Star game held on July 17th at Trout Park.  He smashed two home runs to claim the award.

Huber was honored to receive the award considering his team, the White Team, was edged out 5-4 by the Blue Team, “I was very surprised to get the MVP since I was on the losing team…getting the MVP was really special.”

Huber homered in the top of the second during his very first at bat, tying the game 1-1.  Huber drew a walk in his next plate appearance, but then blasted another homerun to lead off the eighth inning. Overall, Huber went 2-2 at the plate with two runs, two homeruns, two RBI, and two walks.

Huber was not the only player to showcase his talent Sunday night.

Patriots’ shortstop Ryan Kiesel, went 2-3 with two runs, two RBI, and a sac fly.  White Sox’ outfielder Chris Ripple went 1-2 with a run, walk, and sac fly.  Aces’ player Harry Vickers excelled defensively at thirdbase while adding a run, hit, and sac fly.

The All-Star game also featured some great arms, showcasing an array of pitchers; Brett Loeding (Cardinals), Mike McGrath (Titans), Tim Milroy (Americans), and Dave Parr (White Sox) all pitched a 1-2-3 inning of relief.

Both teams' coaches, Mike Schultz and Jack Walker, felt the event was a success. “It was a great night,” commented Walker “very good players and solid competition.  The overall atmosphere, especially with the fan turnout was tremendous!”

“A good night indeed,"  agreed Schultz.
